There are those whom believe that the war for earth started when Lucifer fell, but this isn't true. It started when Lucifer rebelled against God. The fall merely cemented Lucifer's desire for the earth. God, however, was not going to give up the earth without a fight, but it seems no matter how hard God tried Lucifer had the upper hand. God tried to change things to her favor by creating the knights of Heaven to combat against Hell's own knights--whom were known to be fierce warriors with few equals. It did not change the course of the war for earth. The reason for this was because more humans allied with Lucifer than God. Yet, the knights of heaven gave those humans whom wished to stay true to God a fighting chance. The first knight of heaven eventually died. While they were made of more sturdier stuff than the average human they were still mortal, and the passage of time had its effect upon them like it did every man.
However, their powers and abilities did not die with them. They passed onto new humans, whom took on the roles of being the knights of heaven. Some claim that knights of heaven only appear within time of extreme needs and they are the incarnations of the first ones. Whether or not this is true, the knights are born with the lines of the first and most tend to believe they are direct descendants of the original. These families take great care of preserving their heritage, and keeping track of the knight's knowledge so when one finds their way among them they can be taught how to use their powers and abilities. Those whom are not knights are still taught the art of fighting and demon hunting because the army of heaven always needs warriors willing to fight against the forces of hell.
It was into one of these families that Damien was born---the line of Samson to be exact. However, there is a secret about Damien that isn't common knowledge within his family. In fact, Damien isn't aware of it. He believes his father is the patriarch of his family, but the truth is his father is Leviathan. His parents might have decided to keep this fact from the rest of the family because they feared how they would treat Damien if they knew the truth. It might, also, been because they would deny Damien being a knight of heaven. They would claim that his powers and abilities came from being the offspring of a prince of hell rather than a gift from God. They might have simply wished to keep the truth from Leviathan, and the less people whom knew the less likely Leviathan would discover it. Whatever their reason, Damien was raised as the son of the Leclair's patriarch and his mistress. His upbringing was typical of one of his station. He was taught everything he needed to know to be a knight of heaven. It was, also, clear to him that he would never inherit his father's position as patriarch. This wasn't because he wasn't the son of his father's wife, but rather because he was a knight of heaven.
Things might be different within the others knights of heaven's families, but the Leclair believes that their knights should focus solely upon their duties as one of heaven's knights. They should not worry about the more secular responsibilities of the families, however, their opinions are greatly respected, and the family would often make decisions according to what their knights favored. Each of the knight of heaven's families have a close relationship with each other. They would coordinate forces during the larger battles against hell. It wasn't just battles these families came together for, but for more personal matters. Members the families were encouraged to only date and marry other members of the families. The main reason for this was less an idea of keeping the bloodlines pure--through that did play a part--but more an belief that outsiders are unable to truly grasp the war between heaven and hell as well as the role that the knights of heaven played in the entire thing. It was this close relationship that allowed them to learn about the massacre of the line of Abel's family.
The exact details of what happened that night is unclear, but their deaths shook the rest of the families to the core. The idea that an entire knight of heaven's families could be slaughtered completely was inconceivable. They didn't know what this meant, through, they did have ideas. A popular theory was the idea that the war between heaven and hell was coming to an end and a family would be eliminated when the forces of hell got closer to victory. They had no idea which of the families would be next, but they became more vigilant in ensuring that outsiders didn't find their ways into their estates because while they are unsure exactly what happened they believed that it was the work of someone whom didn't belong to one of the families. This tragedy affected Damien's training. The fact that one of the families had been completely annihilated meant he should be more attentive of his duties, and the idea that their deaths might have been proof of hell's inevitable victory made this more true.

The years have drifted by and Damien has completely embraced his role as one of heaven's knights. Truth be told, he couldn't imagine doing anything else. It isn't just fighting demons or protecting the innocent--true, he enjoys those aspect, but it is the fact that doing these things allow him to embrace his warrior spirit. Than one day, it came to his attention that the line of Abel hadn't been completely wiped out. He found the knight of heaven whom came from that line--a young woman named Acelynn, She was from one of the lesser branches of her family, at least he assumed this was the case. Whatever the truth Acelynn somehow survived the massacre of the line of Abel. but she had no idea that she was one of heaven's knights. Damien, however, recognizing her for what she was decided to train her. He was not the only one whom took interested within her training--Cain, one of the knights of hell, also took interested. This did not surprise Damien. Those of heaven and hell often had close relationships in spite being on opposing sides, and this was true between the knights of heaven and the knights of hell.
Damien knows personally just how close a knight of heaven can be with a knight of hell. He has a friendly relationship off the battle field with a few knights of hell--none more so than the knight of hell named Delilah. Their connection started when he was just a boy of seven and she rescued him from a lake's icy waters. She came to his aid many times after that, and he being a child took that to mean they were friends. The years have not changed this, but it had allowed him to repay the favor of saving his life by saving hers a few times-even if she might disagree that her life had actually been in any danger. Not very long after he met Acelynn he encountered a young woman by the name of Ciya. There was something about Ciya he couldn't explain. It wasn't the fact she had no memory of whom she was, and she seemed to regard the world with a bright-eyed eagerness. It wasn't the fact that he felt drawn to her in ways he never felt for someone else. Through, he was certain these things did play a part in what there was about Ciya.
Whatever it was, he felt an needed to protect Ciya and within that desire a more romantic feeling took hold. There is no place he wants to be than her side. A fact he doesn't know what to think of. He is a knight of heaven his duty is to protect man against the forces of hell not to guard one person. However, he was not the only one whom noticed something special about Ciya. Lucifer--one of the princes of hell---asked both Damien and Acelynn to act as Ciya's personal knights and protect her against anything that might try to harm her. It was a request that Damien agreed to, but he can't help wondering why. Was it just a ploy to gain the serve of a heaven knight's in some way? Through, he must admit if this did play a role it was probably a minor one. The main reason was it had to do with Ciya. But, there was still the question of what is there about Ciya that Lucifer wishes to protect? Whatever the reason Damien will figure it out.
